C. Alec Pollard, Ph.D. - Board Member
I am currently President of the Board of Directors. The primary responsibilities of the President are to run the quarterly Board meetings, serve as a liaison between the Board and Share staff, assign committees, and represent the Board to other agencies and the general community. My term as President will end on July 1, 2005. After that, I will remain as a member of the Board for at least one more year to be a resource for the new President.
I became involved in Share in 1989, shortly after our beautiful daughter Chloe Elizabeth was stillborn. My wife Heidi and I were grateful for the help Share provided us and were eager to give something back. When asked to serve on the Board of Directors, I did not hesitate. Heidi became involved with Share as well. She has particularly enjoyed teaching at the training workshops for Share support group leaders.
When I am not serving on the Board of Directors, I am Professor of Community and Family Medicine at Saint Louis University and Director of the Anxiety Disorders Center at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. I am a licensed psychologist. (By the way, nothing I studied in graduate school prepared me to cope with the death of my daughter.) My wife is an advanced practice psychiatric nurse and on the adjunct faculty of the Saint Louis University School of Nursing. Heidi and I have one living son, Matthew. He is now a grown man. It has been a privilege to be a part of his life.
