July 3rd, 2004, was the day our son Jackson Edward Emerson was born still. He was born 3 days shy of his due date. He was our first child. He was a handsome redheaded 7 lb 12 oz perfect little guy with 10 fingers and 10 toes. We later found out that there was a blood clot in the umbilical cord which caused the cord to break away from the placenta. This occurred because of an undiagnosed blood clotting disorder. We were led to Share by a friend who mentioned the annual Share Walk. I found it comforting that Share was located on Jackson Street. When I went in to pick up some brochures that day, I met Susan whom I sat with for a couple of hours talking and crying. Susan and Share gave me hope that day for the fist time since we lost Jackson.

I knew I had to get the word out about Share. This year we held the 2nd annual Hold’em for Hope poker tournament. Thanks to my friends at Kappa Omega (especially John and Christine Loveless and Tracy Houck) we were able to not only raise money for Share again this year but we were also able to get the word out about Share’s purpose. The Hold’em for Hope poker tournament is Jackson’s legacy. His life was short but full of purpose and hope.

Share has given Bill and I hope and we have begun to heal. On September 9th, 2005, we welcomed Jackson’s sister Jenna Barbara Emerson into the world. She is a beautiful little girl who just happens to look a lot like her brother.

2005 was a tough year for my husband. He welcomed our daughter, Jenna, but had to say goodbye to his mother, Barbara Foster, who lost her battle with cancer on October 5, 2005. Barbara was a big supporter of Share and believed in their message of hope and healing. She had witnessed first hand how Share was instrumental in giving us hope. At her funeral, the Foster family talked about Share and how important it was to her. Many donations were made to Share in Barbara Foster’s name. We know that Nana Foster and Jackson are our angels in heaven watching over all of us.
